Scientific Visualization
DNA visualized in the molecular graphics software PyMol. Various visualizations depict the molecules with increasing realism, from "lines", "ribbons", "sticks", and "space-filling" spheres, to "surfaces". The files contain 3D coordinate data , the element name , and chemical bond information for each atom. The file formats include : *.pdb , and *.mol.

DNA visualized as lines & ribbons showing the double helix. Visible at the top center is the hydrogen-bonding between the base pairs of Guanine and Cytosine (see next slide). This type of bond is relatively weak , facilitating the two strands to be manipulated , such as during DNA replication prior to cell division.
